Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms have ALL of the following:
(a) hold a recognised Degree in Landscape Architecture, Agricultural Science (taken in Horticulture), or the Master of Horticulture of the Royal Horticultural Society, London, or an equivalent professional qualification,
(b) have, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms for the office, at least five years satisfactory experience, after qualifying as at (a) preceding, of practical landscape architecture, landscape horticulture and practical arboriculture with particular reference to the propagation and culture of plants, and the design, planting and maintenance of parks,
(c) have a satisfactory knowledge of the principles of parks design,
and
(d) possess a high standard of technical training and experience.
The Ideal Candidate will Demonstrate:
1.1.1 Demonstrable professional experience of landscape architecture (typically 5+ years) with a strong focus on design, technical detailing, preparation of tender documentation and construction management. .
1.1.2 Satisfactory professional knowledge and experience of public realm, landscape and urban design.
1.1.3 Knowledge of the legislation, policies, procedures and regulations guiding the design, operation and management of the public realm.
1.1.4 Knowledge of current recreational needs, interests, trends and facilities.
1.1.5 Knowledge of the methods, techniques and requirements for the upkeep of facilities, grounds and equipment.
1.1.6 Knowledge of the principles and practices in the management of natural resources within parks and open spaces.
1.1.7 Knowledge of historic gardens and their unique management requirements.
1.1.8 Knowledge of biodiversity and sustainable management techniques to protect and enhance habitats.
1.1.9 Knowledge of invasive species, identification and best practice control techniques.
1.1.10 A professional qualification in arboriculture (desirable but not essential).
1.1.11 Knowledge of public relations and possess good interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to engage with a wide range of people.
1.1.12 Knowledge of the principles and practice of personnel and office management.
1.1.13 Knowledge of public procurement processes.
1.1.14 Knowledge of Trail design, construction and maintenance.
1.1.15 Knowledge of playground design, construction and maintenance.
1.1.16 Knowledge of visual impact assessment.
1.1.17 Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations, their implications for the organisation and the employee, and their application in the workplace and experience in the application of same.
1.1.18 Knowledge of the methods and techniques of construction activities, including construction methods, equipment, specifications and contracts and experience in contract delivery.
1.1.19 Competence and experience in the procurement and the preparation of tender documents.
1.1.20 Competence and experience in the management of staff.
1.1.21 Competence and experience in the area of landscape design.
1.1.22 Competency and experience in the area of information technology; with well-developed skills including graphic design.
1.1.23 Ability to organise, evaluate and present information effectively both orally, graphically and in writing.
1.1.24 Ability to schedule work projects.
1.1.25 A willingness to take ownership of problem-solving and lead where necessary.
1.1.26 A willingness to be flexible and adapt to demands of a busy and diverse work environment.
1.1.27 Capacity to work on his/her own initiative.
1.1.28 An understanding of Local Authority services and structures or have the ability to quickly acquire same.
1.1.29 Possess a current unendorsed full driving licence (Category B) as he/she may be required to drive in the course of his/her duties.
